THE story of a York man who saw a ghostly legion of Roman soldiers in the city has been turned into a play for the city’s Roman Festival.
The Day The Ninth Came Home is a dramatic retelling of Harry Martindale’s encounter with the Ninth Legion 58 years ago when he saw troops march through the cellar of Treasurer’s House.
The play has been written by Damian Freddi, and told through the eyes of Mr Martindale, and promises laughs, scares and tears.
Damian has based his play on a script by York historian Keith Mulhearn, who also organised last year’s Roman Festival.
The play will be performed at The Black Swan Inn, Peasholme Green, York, on Friday, at 8.30pm.
Tickets cost £5 for adults, £2 for children, and are available at the pub.
