THE “exceptional hard work” of staff and pupils at Bishopthorpe Playgroup has seen it handed top marks in a recent Government inspection.

The playgroup recently moved to new accommodation in Ferry Lane after leaving the old school in Bishopthorpe. Despite the upheaval the group managed to raise its rating from “good” to “outstanding” when Ofsted inspectors visited last month.

Chairman Lynn Pym, said: “Between the tears and the cake there was a lot of celebrating by children and staff. We are absolutely delighted.

“The report said the two fundamental changes we have made since our last report were outstanding.

“Everyone has worked exceptionally hard.”
