YOUNGSTERS at schools across York have been getting fit for fun in this year’s Tesco Great School Run.
About 700 young runners and parents from city schools including Badger Hill, Osbaldwick and Lord Deramore’s took part in the 2km run at Archbishop Holgate’s CE School.
The national event is the UK’s biggest fun run, involving more than 1.2 million children from 4,900 schools, who have been completing the run at various venues around the country between May 9 and July 22.
Pete Dwyer, director of adults, children and education at City of York Council, said: “The Tesco Great School Run is now an integral part of school sport and it’s great to see so many children from York taking part in these activities.
“The event really motivates the children and it plays a vital role in ensuring they remain fit and healthy.”
