AN environmental company specialising in sustainable energy has reiterated its intention to develop two sites in North Yorkshire.
Peel Environmental has announced it is considering developing 11 sites around the country owned by UK Coal, including the North Selby and Kellingley collieries.
Myles Kitcher, director of Peel Environmental, said no firm decisions for the sites had yet been made, but said: “The UK needs to invest in waste infrastructure developments if we are to manage our waste more sustainably, provide renewable sources of energy and, generally, contribute to the low carbon economy.”
Mr Kitcher said as the proposals developed, the company would discuss them with local councils and communities.
In April, Science City York announced its withdrawal from Peel’s proposed development of a £30 million energy plant at the North Selby site, and UK Coal was ordered by City of York Council to remove all buildings and machinery from site within two years, as it constituted a breach of planning controls.
