VISITORS to a North Yorkshire country house will have more to experience than their stately surroundings this summer, thanks to an art exhibition from a BRIT-nominated band.
Nunnington Hall, near Helmsley, will host an exhibition from Guillemots until the end of July, and the event was launched with an intimate acoustic gig at the hall on Monday evening.
Simon Lee, operations manager for the hall, said the idea for the exhibition came after he saw some drawings lead singer Fyfe Dangerfield had done after contributing to a concert at the hall last year.
Simon said: “We discussed an exhibition that would involve the whole band, who are each artistic in different ways.
“This exhibition will show another side to Guillemots beyond their music. I think it’s a really interesting and very exciting project.”
Fyfe said: “It just came out of an email conversation with Simon. It wasn’t like we were trying to make an artistic statement. I just had all these drawings lying around and on my website, and thought they may as well be hanging on a wall.”
The two-room exhibition features drawings and photographs from Fyfe, sculptures and drawings from drummer Greig Stewart, an atmospheric video installation from guitarist MC Lord Magrão, and reproductions of journal entries from bass player Aristazabal Hawkes.
Greig said: “At first we were worried that we wouldn’t have enough work for the space, or it wouldn’t be good enough, but Simon reassured us and we think it’s worked really well. The hall has previously held exhibitions of work by Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood, Canadian rocker Bryan Adams, and ex-Police guitarist Andy Summers.
The exhibition, entitled Sometimes I Remember Wrong, will run until July 31.
