AFTER reading in The Press of June 7 that Hugh Bayley had claimed £15 in expenses for his cycle and then seeing that he was going to be cycling with children from the Kool Kids Club, I wondered if he would be putting that on his expenses too.

Most people who cycle to work don’t receive expenses for doing so. I would have thought that would have come out of his £64,000 annual salary.

David Cameron saying he was going to cut MPs’ expenses has been a joke because nothing has been done.

• ARE the ‘super-fit’ quartet of bike riders pictured in The Press, June 6, dedicated cyclists or just exhibitionists showing off their tattoos?

If they are regular cyclists, pedalling Paul Heworth will have to instigate and supervise the work of widening all the cycle lanes; or would it be a cheaper option to provide a police wide-load escort as they sally forth?

On a more serious note, Barry Hamer is right (Letters, June 7). There is a time and place for everything. Our historic city of York is not the place for this vulgar spectacle to be held at any time and it should be banned.
