STUDENTS from a North Yorkshire college have contributed this welcome sign to a village near Selby.
The bricklaying students, from York College, built three village signs for the Ryther community, and also carried out some renovation work on the village hall, as part of a project designed by their tutors.
Damien Docherty and Joel Gardner helped to build the village signs, with the help of tutors Harpal Sambhi and Robin Chappell, and the stone for the signs was carved by stonemasonry tutor Paul Hill and his students.
The bricks were provided by the York Handmade Brick Company and materials were supplied by the York branch of Keyline. Plants were donated by Poppleton Community Railway Nursery.
Mr Sambhi said: “Everyone involved fully enjoyed the project.
“Projects such as this really help students to see how ‘live’ work needs to be planned and executed. It is good for students to have work experience outside of the college environment and work such as this can be placed on their CV’s in the future.”
