LAST Saturday, at 12.45pm, I overheard a conversation at the junction of Skeldergate and Micklegate between a group of suited drink-sodden middle-aged men as they swaggered across the road against a red light.
They used language about the car drivers that cannot be repeated here.
Granted that the overwhelming majority of race-goers are well-behaved, there will always be a minority who need to be told what is unacceptable behaviour. I was therefore surprised to see that, despite the presence of hundreds of punters, there was not one policeman/ community officer between Micklegate and The Mount.
As it is in his ward, may I suggest that Coun Fraser starts earning his allowance by insisting that the racecourse spends part of its profits on adequate crowd supervision; this should not be a charge to the taxpayer.
So, come on, Sandy; roll your sleeves up and show you’re a grafter.
