I DON’T wish to sound patronising but if it wasn’t for The Press, two fantastic feats by local participants would have gone unnoticed.
(1) A national competition for England’s best pork pies was won by local butcher JA Mountfield & Sons, of Bubwith (The Press, June 4). This hard-working family butchers led by son David buy their meat products from local farmers and deserve the highest praise.
(2) World-class golfer Simon Dyson, born in Malton, played out of his skin to finish only two strokes behind world number one Luke Donald and world number two Lee Westwood in the recent BMW championship at Wentworth (The Press, June 7).
Hats off and three cheers for David Mountfield and family and Simon Dyson, also The Press and Gazette and Herald for giving these local heroes a gee and shame on the daily nationals for not giving them a much-deserved mention.
