HOORAY for council leader James Alexander, (The Press, June 11). Extending the pedestrian zone in the city is an excellent idea.
Coun Alexander states that the larger delivery lorries have problems in our streets and suggests that “a distribution centre on the outskirts of the city” where lorries can decant into smaller delivery trucks would be a step forward.
I agree: small electric delivery vehicles would show we value our tourist and shopper business.
In addition, I would ask, why not also keep the streets free of parked cars in the pedestrian area which is continually clogged with parked vehicles? This totally alters the experience we want to give shoppers and tourists.
Why not have a reserved parking area for all the disabled cars which park in York streets, and give them a city centre Park&Ride electric bus?
I am sure all the disabled people will find being dropped off by an electric bus, near to their intended destination, with an assured pick up, will be much better than parking in our narrow streets, and they will then have a much improved experience also.
