A MASTERCLASS in cookery was given to year nine pupils from around York by one of the city’s top chefs.
James Brown, executive chef at the Marriott Hotel in the city, visited Manor School to judge the Gifted And Talented Food Day, an inter-schools competition to find the chefs of tomorrow.
Pupils from Manor, Burnholme, All Saints’ and York High School were given a demonstration in the morning by Mr Brown before getting to work on their own creations, which the Marriott chef judged.
The winners were Ellie Palmer and Mark Pitt, from Manor School.
Louise Hill, the school’s food technology teacher, said: “I was impressed by the overall quality of all entrants and the thought and preparation that had gone into devising the menus. A great day was had by all and an excellent opportunity for schools to work together.”
