ROADS bosses in North Yorkshire have taken the first steps in a bid for £10 million of Government funding for transport projects.

North Yorkshire County Council has picked two schemes which it will submit to the Department for Transport as the authority aims to win cash from the Local Sustainable Transport Fund.

The Harrogate Sustainable Transport Package and the East Coast Tourist Economy Package both include new Park&Ride sites, and more details of the schemes are being developed. The East Coast project is likely to include different ways of letting visitors to Scarborough know when congestion is affecting main roads so they can plan their journeys accordingly.

The council can make a maximum of two funding bids, with the closing date being next February and the successful schemes expected to be announced next May.

Coun Gareth Dadd, the council’s executive member for highways, said: “This is the first step in the process and we now need to develop the package in more detail before submitting the final bid to the Department for Transport next February.”
