FIRE broke out at a former mushroom farm near Thorpe Willoughby – again.
The flames were so high, several residents made 999 calls to alert the emergency services about the blaze at the disused Gateforth Park site shortly before 10pm on Thursday.
There have been several arson attacks at the former farm in recent years. Two crews from Selby Fire Station fought the flames which engulfed two buildings each measuring 20 metres by ten metres. The cause has yet to be established.
In January, Selby district councillors rejected a planning application to demolish some of its buildings and replace them by a base for “showpeople” who stage circuses and funfairs.
The scheme prompted 306 letters of objections, claiming the site was not suitable for the area and was not needed. The applicants said the current sites in the district were overcrowded.
