JUNIOR talent made the biggest inroad in the latest round of the inaugural York Golf League.
James Wright, the only junior player in the 21-strong field for the league which is played at the Skelton Park course, leapt four places after the third round into sixth place.
The lead is still held by Howard Smith, but his advantage is now down to just two points as his nearest pursuer, Martin Alderson-Crombie surged forward largely thanks to a birdie at the par-three fifth.
The winner of the nearest the pin was Gary Smith, who won a new golf umbrella and more importantly three bonus points.
The totals for the first three weeks are: (number in brackets denotes number of game weeks played) 1 Howard Smith (3) 70; 2 Martin Alderson-Crombie (3) 68; 3 Jason Knight (3) 64; 4 Shaun Adams (3) 63; 5 Dan Kilner (3) 62; 6 James Wright (3) 61; 7 Martin Hillaby (3) 60; 8 Ady Doyle (3) 59; tied 9 Al Cadden (3) and Paul Hillaby (3) 58; 11 Peter Lambert (3) 56; 12 Mark Harton (3) 46; 13 Andrew Wright (3) 45; 14 Gary Smith (2) 44; 15 Damon Scott (2) 38; 16 Ron Jones (3) 34; tied 17 Dave Kilner (2) and Julian Davis (3) 32; 19 Mick Stone (2) 30; 20 Matty Sweeting (2) 29; 21 Matt Scott (2) 27.
