WHAT a magnificent sight the Trooping Of The Colour is, no one can do it better than the British. The Danish Hussars, although good at the Yorkshire Show one year, were not a patch on our horsemen.
Lt Con James Buchnall said at the weekend: “It is a very daunting task” on the Duke of Cambridge’s first ride but, along with the rest of our Royals, performed brilliantly.
Our magnificent Queen and Duke of Edinburgh rose to the occasion, the Queen loves her horses. Many years ago, along with my fellow young farmers, I watched for a couple of hours a live rehearsal. The Coldstream Guards and the rest of the marchers were faultless.
My late uncle, Wilson Zenith Walker, who was in the Coldstream Guards saw service in the war and returned home shattered, along with so many others from Dunkirk.
We have much to be thankful for with our brave men, both at war and in the ceremonial role.
