WHEN viewing the BBC’s superb coverage of our Queen’s official birthday celebrations on Sunday, June 11, I recalled Mr Quarrie’s odd advice that “we could learn a lot from the Germans” (Readers Letters, May 4).

Surely the boot is on the other foot. It is the Germans who could learn from us.

For instance, would our foes in the First and Second World War (whom we beat twice) have been able to match the celebrations of a much-admired monarch as we did last Saturday in our own beloved country?

I know the answer, Mr Quarrie.
