A 74-YEAR-OLD man was attacked by a gang of youths near a York railway bridge, sparking a police appeal for help.
Officers believe the driver of a silver family saloon car, who took the victim home following the assault at Askham Bar, may have witnessed the incident and could have information vital to the investigation.
The pensioner was approached by four youths on the railway bridge, near Tesco supermarket, at about 7.45pm on Wednesday, June 8, with one hitting the man over the head.
He was left shaken, but did not need hospital treatment. Nothing was stolen during the incident.
PC Colin Park, of York Police, said: “I would like to thank the driver of the car for taking the victim home and also appeal for him to come forward and let us know if he witnessed the incident itself.”
Anyone who can help the police should phone PC Park on 0845 6060247 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
