A REVIEW of care homes in York is to be carried out because of concerns about the quality of some of the city’s facilities.
City of York Council’s cabinet member for health, housing and adult social services, Coun Tracey Simpson-Laing, said a “lack of modern facilities” was having an impact on demand and meant some residents were moved several times, potentially harming their health.
She has asked officers to scrutinise existing care provision in York with the aim of improving the standard of facilities, saying: “I have always been immensely impressed by the dedication, commitment and welcoming nature of our staff, as well as by the high-quality care residents receive. Staff do a great deal to make residents comfortable and happy where they live, but I’m concerned about variable facilities standards between our older homes, many of which are 40 to 50 years old, and newer homes, such as Auden House.”
Coun Simpson-Laing said 33 of the city’s 276 care home rooms had en suite facilities.
