FORMER York Municipal Tennis Tournament referee Neville King has died in York. He was 78.
Originally from Bradford, King played tennis at York Civil Service Tennis Club, where he met his wife Ann. Both were team captains until a severe back problem forced his retirement.
He was referee of the Municipal tournament, then held in Rowntree Park, in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and for 13 years was secretary of the Tyke Petroleum Men’s Tennis League. He wrote league notes for The Press.
He taught law, English and general studies at York College for 20 years before his retirement.
The funeral service is at York Crematorium tomorrow, at 11.40am.
