THIS was the scene when approximately 80 tonnes of baled straw caught fire at a farm in North Duffield, near Selby, as seen from a nearby public road.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said crews from Selby, Acomb and Tadcaster had attended the blaze, off Hugh Field North Lane, which was first reported at shortly before 8pm on Monday.
The spokesman said procedure meant the fire was supervised, rather than put out, but crews worked in shifts throughout the night and most of yesterday to monitor the fire.
Firefighters also used water to prevent the fire spreading to the surrounding area and to protect nearby farm buildings. The cause of the fire had not yet been determined, but nobody had been hurt in the incident.
