DO you know a local hero?
Residents in East Yorkshire are being asked to nominate someone they know who has acted in an heroic manner for an awards scheme set up by the Humberside Fire & Rescue Service.
The winner, who will be chosen following the result of a public vote, will then be honoured at an awards ceremony. Last year, nominations for the award included a man rescuing a young mother and child from an upturned vehicle in an icy ditch, a man being rescued from the River Hull and a family being rescued by a member of the public from a house fire. Two men who rescued a young woman from a burning car on the A63 were the winners.
Katrina Horth, organiser of the awards scheme, said: “We are asking people to nominate someone they think has acted heroically. This does not necessarily mean that someone needs to have performed some kind of rescue, as heroic acts can be carried out by people who just make a real positive difference to others through their actions.” Nominations can be forwarded to the fire service by phoning or texting 07851 495960, emailing localhero@humbersidefire.gov.uk or by writing to Freepost NEA3601 Humberside Fire and Rescue Service, Hull, HU4 7BB.
