Students at York College have turned it into a huge art gallery, as Stephen Lewis discovered.
ART and design students have turned York College into a huge art gallery for their end-of-year show.
The York College Creative Show, which opens today, features work by students studying everything from drawing and painting to ceramics, glass-work, print-making, animation, digital imaging and photography.
Students’ work has gone on display in spaces and display areas throughout the building. “It is all over the college – it’s like a huge art gallery!” a college spokesman said.
Helen Ventriss, the college’s head of art, design and craft, said the show reflected the “flair and genius” of the students.
“Their inspiration comes from trips, live projects, working with employers, competitions and preparation for the real world of work and further study.
“They are the young artists and new designers of the future with their finger on the pulse of exciting ideas in the ever changing world we live in.”
Best of all, the college is keen for members of the public to come along to see the work for themselves.
The show is open from today until next Tuesday, from 9am to 5pm weekdays and 10am to noon on Saturday.
Just turn up, check in at the college reception, and browse away. “We want people to come and see,” said a college spokesperson. “People can just turn up to have a look.”
