A PRIMARY school near Selby has been given £20,000 of equipment for a special educational needs department.

Athelstan Primary, in Sherburn-in-Elmet, beat more than 150 schools in a national competition to design its ideal facilities, run by software company RM Education.

The new classroom will feature new laptops, a mobile whiteboard, and equipment for animation and recording in a designated media area.

Kirsty Whelerton, information and communication technology coordinator at the school, said: “We’re so excited as this could really change their overall school experience.

“The room will really open up new ways of learning and change the way look and feel of our lessons.”

“We’re confident this will support great results for our pupils.”
