YORK residents are being encouraged to recycle more as part of Recycle Week.

City of York Council is offering support and advice to help people waste less and recycle more.

Elizabeth Parker, waste strategy officer, said: “More than 45 per cent of household waste is currently recycled and composted in York and we’re aiming to increase this to 47 per cent by the end of the year. We know that residents have been working really hard to get our recycling rate to this level, which is why we’ll be looking at ways we can help them recycle even more over the next few months.”

Residents living alone can request a box with dividers for all of their recycling, those who struggle to lift their recycling can request wheels or a trolley for their box, and residents who have physical difficulties putting their recycling out can apply for an assisted collection.

If you need help recycling please phone the council on 01904 551551 or go to york.gov.uk to apply for services on line.
