ORGANISERS are confident singer Pete Doherty will be able to perform at York Barbican in September – despite being jailed in May for six months.

The Libertines singer was handed the sentence at London’s Snaresbrook Crown Court after he pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine.

He is due to perform at the Barbican on September 22, in one of the biggest concerts to be staged at the venue since it was recently reopened by SMG Europe following a £2 million refurbishment.

Were he to serve the full six months imposed by a judge, the concert could not go ahead. But the event’s promoter Joff Hall, of The Duchess, said that at present, he had “every reason to believe” the performance would go ahead as planned.

He said: “Although he has recently received a six-month jail sentence, the official court report has stated he is likely to be released on August 21 – his release date may even be earlier on good behaviour – which is well in advance of his York show on September 22.”

He said with this in mind, customers could buy tickets in full confidence that the show would go ahead as planned.

He said: “His recent May tour received great reviews and we’re very much looking forward to Peter’s performance with us.”

He said when concerts were cancelled refunds of the face value of the ticket were offered, or ticket holders could have their ticket transferred to a rescheduled date.
