REFERENCE your headline and associated article Car park sell-off move (The Press, June 18).
Astounding, ridiculous, dubious – just three words out of many I could use to describe what appears more and more like a foregone conclusion between York City Council and York St John University, to remove a local coach and car parking asset that is well used throughout the year by tourists, shoppers, football supporters and numerous others.
Union Terrace coach and car park is essential to the increasing revitalisation of the nearby Gillygate area. Those of us with reasonable memories will remember when this street was blighted by speculative planning not that many years ago. As it is, with the removal of this planning blight and the existence of nearby coach and car park facilities like Union Terrace, Gillygate is now thriving.
