YORK couple who bought a very special tandem bike have used it at their wedding.
Paul Stanton, 63, and Belinda Noda, 53, of Fulford, arrived at their outdoor wedding reception on their specially-made bike and used it to cycle around and greet guests.
The bike has a detachable wheelchair for Belinda who is paralysed from the chest down following an accident.
The couple say the wheelchair tandem bike has changed their lives as it has allowed them to travel to far-flung areas of the country together.
Paul said: “We were getting married and we wanted to make it a bit different so we held it in Ryedale Folk Museum and invited guests to come in their favourite costumes – we both like the 1940s.
“We wanted to do something that would allow us to make a fitting arrival and I was looking for something that would enable me to cycle and let Belinda come with me.
“When we bought it we were thinking specifically of the wedding but since then it has transformed the places where have been able to go.”
Paul and Belinda have now bought a mobile home and have travelled together to destinations across England.
The pair found their bike with their help of cycling specialists Get Cycling in Hospital Fields.
Jim McGurn, chief executive of Get Cycling, said: “We were delighted and so happy we were able to provide the cycle they wanted – they use it so much in their lives. It was a great surprise and pleasure to us. “
