A “Brief encounter” Christian Potter would win his wager on cycling more than me (Letters, Kept Our Modesty, June 18).
I don’t ride pedal cycles these days, my main pastime is motor cycling, I walk to keep fit and, when tired, use my bus pass.
I was however a keen cyclist in my youth, riding all over Yorkshire with my friends, later joining the CTC.
I was inspired by my sister, June Thackray, née Oliver, who was British Road Race Champion 1953/4 and raced in Belgium and France and is still cycling.
I have thoughts on getting on a bike again, during the school holidays, to teach my granddaughter, who is seven, the Highway Code on cycling.
I would not want her to encounter a naked bike rider of either gender, tattooed or not. It would scare the pants off us both and it might put her off cycling for good.
A Oliver, Hawthorn Spinney, Huntington, York.
