I wish to thank Sylvia Dunn for voicing what many of us have festered and grumbled about for some time (McCanns anger, Letters, June 20).

I am of the old school whereby I always took my son everywhere with me – if I couldn’t take a pram with me 30 years ago, I didn’t go.

We went up to higher floors in a department store via the trade lift and at no time did he leave my sight. I now have a three-year-old granddaughter and can’t imagine what fear she would feel waking up in a strange room with an unknown person in the darkness.

I had seven miscarriages before having my son and really treasured every precious moment I had with him ensuring his wellbeing... what a kick in the teeth for all the childless couples worldwide.

• IN RESPONSE to Sylvia Dunn’s letter regarding the McCanns. I do voice my opinions. I do agree with Kate McCann calling for support for missing people.

Kate and Gerry should not have left the children. A mistake they will carry for the rest of their lives. But Kate and Gerry wrote the book about Madeleine to raise more funds to try and find her.

How can you not feel sorry for them? It is heart-wrenching, unless you have a heart of stone.

I hope one day they find peace.
