I have just read the article “School bids to boost security” in The Press (June 22). Although I appreciate there may be a security problem at Wheldrake with Thorganby CE Primary School, where is the money coming from to install this security fence?
There is a big problem at this school at the present time regarding the intake of children. There are children being turned away who live just five minutes walk away from the school and who are having to be taken to Elvington. There have been children in Thorganby refused entrance and offered Dunnington (fortunately the child concerned did get in on appeal). Surely this money would be better spent on an extra classroom and teacher to accommodate more children from what is an expanding village?
