Heworth ARLC Under-11s visited Oulton for the fifth and final time this season but saved the best till last.

They swept aside a brave Viking side to record their 21st victory of the campaign.

Their tackling, at times, was brutal and their line speed immense as Oulton struggled to get out of their own half for long periods – doing well to be only 12-4 down at the break.

Lester Massey opened the scoring as he crossed in the corner. Then Sam Young scored the first of his brace.

Jake Wright’s brute strength broke a tackle to race clear under the posts before Young scored his second, gathering a Shay North grubber kick.

Tom Kilgar capped another fine performance as he ghosted around the full-back to score the Villagers’ fifth try to win 30-8.

Leon Beattie produced his best ever performance for Heworth as he ran the ball in strongly and topped the tackled count, backed up by Shay North’s effort which won him the opponents’ man of the match.

Cain North took the man of steel for some thunderous hits and Jamie Morrison showed his potential for a much improved showing.

Ellena Powell was top tackler for New Earswick All Blacks U9s against a hard Stanningley side, which put on a great display of junior rugby.

Ellie Harrison was girl of the game for her two superb line breaks, which nearly saw her on the score sheet, while the rising star award went to Oliver Douglas for a great tackling display in the second half.

Man of match was the improving Joshua Walton, while Lewis Young received the magic moment accolade for the fancy footwork that led to his try.

Heworth U9s suffered only their second loss of the season against a strong Drighlington side.

Luke Prenty scored a fine try after breaking through the defence and he was named the man of the match.

Harry Griffiths and Austin Cole shared the magic moment award for some excellent tackles, while Griffiths also crossed for the second try.

Charlie Nicholson scored the next two touch downs and he picked up the top tackler award.

Kian Oliver was the last to score when he broke free and managed to run almost the full length of the pitch. Oliver was the opposition’s choice of man of the match.

Any Year 4 boys who would like to give rugby league a try can attend training at Elmpark Way on Thursdays at 6.30pm.

Under-strength Heworth U8s lost at a strong tackling Shaw Cross Sharks.

The Villagers battled hard and were rewarded when magic moment winner Jack Young ran half the length of the pitch to score in the corner after a great off load from Jake Edgar.

Jay Richards continued his fine development to collect the man of the match award thanks to some great defence. He was well supported by Callum Rutland, who topped the tackle count.
