Pupils at a York school are gearing themselves up for a week of environmental volunteering.
From today, 28 pupils from St Peter’s School, in York, will be helping the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers at local nature reserves.
They will be carrying out boardwalk construction, helping out with meadow management and building nest boxes to support the barn owl population.
They will also help to create a sensory maze and a “bug hotel” at St Barnabas’ Primary School.
The trust’s youth and community project officer, Rachel Earnshaw, said: “They are going to be very busy over the next week.
“They are committed to a full five days of volunteering and should be very proud of themselves by the end of the week.”
