PROPOSALS for a major revamp of the area outside York Minster will have to go before planners for a second time.
The Dean and Chapter of York secured permission for a new piazza outside the South Transept three years ago as part of the £19 million Minster Revealed project.
The scheme involved remodelling the existing steps to that section of the Minster, improving disabled access by installing ramps, and carrying out external alterations to two properties in Minster Gate so a new shop and ticket office could be opened.
But the work has yet to be carried out and the time limit for it to start, as granted under the previous planning permission from City of York Council in June 2008, expired on Saturday.
The Dean and Chapter submitted a new application ahead of the expiry date and have also applied to renew the listed building consent necessary for the scheme.
