FEARS have been raised over plans to build a wind turbine on the East Yorkshire coast.
Developers Wind Energy Direct Ltd are considering installing a 377ft structure on land between Bempton and Sewerby, close to Flamborough Head.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s planning committee is due to assess an application by the company for a 200ft wind monitoring mast to be built at the site for a 12-month period, with an application for the turbine following if it is ruled to be a viable proposition.
But Flamborough Parish Council chairman Ian Woodhouse said: “Personally, I am very wary of this proposal and would not be in favour of it.
“Apart from the visual impact, it could have a detrimental effect on wildlife. Turbines should be in a less sensitive area.”
Wind Energy Direct said the project would include only a single turbine and the scheme was at an early stage, as well as saying they would involve the community in the planning process should they press ahead with their plans.
