THIS year’s The Press Family Raceday will take place on Sunday, September 4, and promises all the fun that has seen the event grow over more than a decade.

This year will feature an appearance from two of the biggest characters from children’s television; Timmy The Lamb, from Timmy Time and Captain Barnacles from the hugely popular Octonauts animated series.

One change for this year is the fact that a single admission ticket will now give access to the traditional picnic area in the course enclosure, as well as the grandstand and paddock.

James Brennan, head of marketing at the racecourse, said: “Last year the course enclosure was verging on being too busy, while the grandstand and paddock was not as busy as it could have been.

“So we have come up with a plan to combine the two. Racegoers will still be able to bring a picnic to enjoy on the bank in the course enclosure, take advantage of our special picnic hamper cloakroom and then cross over to the parade ring.”

As well as the new attractions for this year, the day will feature the usual seven thoroughbred races, pony racing and a bouncy castle.

Last year the event attracted 25,000 visitors.

An early-bird rate of £7 for tickets is available for online bookings before August 28.

The regular gate price will be £10. Accompanied under-16s get in for free.

The dress code for the special family meeting is relaxed and men are not required to wear a jacket, collar and tie.
