Paralympic handcyclist Karen Darke will be stopping off in York tomorrow as part of her fundraising tour of Northern England.
Karen is taking part in the Fit 2 Wheel tour of the three main spinal cord injuries centres in Northern England, starting in Middlesbrough, calling at Wakefield and ending in Sheffield. Karen recently won a gold medal in the Piacenza International Paracycling Cup in Italy, as well as two silver medals at the Paracycling Road World Cup in Australia. She has also been named Ultimate Fearless Female by Cosmopolitan magazine.
Karen, who was paralysed from the chest down following a rock-climbing accident, aims to show spinal unit patients that “fun, adventure and physical fitness are still possible” in addition to raising money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
