WHEN The Barbican reopened a letter asked why Scarborough had Sir Elton John and York got Huge.
The people of York had waited a long time for The Barbican to reopen, so it was fitting that the most popular local band, Huge, did the honours. They proved their popularity by playing to a full house.
We now see (The Press, Friday June 24) that there are 7,387 more reasons, this being the number of pounds raised for the Lord Mayor’s Charities and York Against Cancer.
If we had booked someone of the standing of Sir Elton the audience would have had nothing left to donate after paying for expensive tickets, so the charities would be the losers. Anyway, I personally would rather watch Huge than Elton John any day.
