A MAN with a history of domestic violence has been jailed after he attacked two of his girlfriends.
York Crown Court gave Michael Roy John Bennison, 27, a suspended prison sentence last October for punching a woman unconscious and scarring her for life.
Deborah Smithies, prosecuting, said that, while subject to the sentence, Bennison accused his new girlfriend of talking to another man online. “He is described as ranting and raving,” said the barrister.
Bennison punched his victim in the face, smashed a door inside her home and attacked her laptop. At one stage he left the house, but got back in by grabbing the woman’s arm and pulled himself in through a window, Ms Smithies said “You need to lock me up,” Bennison told police when they arrested him. “I need to get myself sorted out.”
Recorder Tahir Khan QC obliged by ordering Bennison to serve ten months of the 11-month suspended sentence, plus four for his latest offences.
Bennison, no fixed address, pleaded guilty to assault and criminal damage and breaching the suspended sentence, imposed for criminal damage and causing actual bodily harm.
He has previous convictions for violence, including at least one for domestic violence.
Describing last year’s victim as Bennison’s then girlfriend, Ms Smithies said Bennison lost his temper, slammed a door, threw items around and punched her in the face. In May, he had been in a relationship with the second victim for about eight months when he attacked her after returning from a night out drinking in York.
During the incident, the girlfriend’s lodger tried to protect her from Bennison’s rage and Bennison punched an internal door several times.
For Bennison, Neal Kutte said he had a significant problem with controlling his temper, which was “exacerbated” when he had been drinking. He now accepted that his relationship with his latest girlfriend was over.
He had lost his employment as a handyman, but was hoping to get another job, he said.
