THIS couple from Wilberfoss are celebrating 60 years of happy marriage this week.
Arthur Whatt, 86, and wife Betty, 80, met at a dance while Harry was serving as a police sergeant at RAF Sutton-on-Hull in 1947.
After leaving the service in 1951, the couple were married in Hull before moving to Lincolnshire and eventually returning to Hull in 1958, where Mr Whatt worked as a sales manager for a laundry company.
The couple have two grown up sons, Peter and John and three grandsons.
They have lived in Wilberfoss in East Yorkshire since 1998.
Asked the secret to a long marriage, Mr Whatt said: “You just do as you’re told don’t you? It’s been a good life though.” The couple will celebrate with a family get-together and a barbecue.
