A WOMAN escaped serious injury after her car flipped on to its roof in a quiet York village.
Police, paramedics and the fire service were called after the car, being driven by a woman in her 20s, flipped over outside the Grey Horse pub in Main Street, Elvington at about 9.30pm.
The vehicle is thought to have been involved in a collision with two parked cars.
Gareth Ames, who was at the scene of the accident, said: “I was walking up the main street going to the pub when it happened.
“I heard a big bang and looked around and saw the car on its roof so I ran into the pub to get help and then over to the car.
“It must have launched itself up because it landed on its roof on the other side of the road.
“The woman managed to get out of the car. It must have been quite a shock for her. There were lots of people milling around. It was quite a strange sight in a normally quiet village.”
Villagers helped to sweep the street and secure the car, Mr Ames said.
The woman, who has not been named, was not thought to have been injured in the collision but is believed to have suffered shock, a police spokesman said.
She was out of the vehicle when the fire service arrived and was seen by paramedics.
An ambulance took her to hospital to be checked out, said an ambulance service spokesman.
