Walker and campaigner Colin Speakman, who is founding-secretary of the Yorkshire Dales Society and is credited with creating the popular Dales Way, has written a new book celebrating the part walking plays in our national life.
Published to mark the 75th anniversary of the Campaign for National Parks, Walk! looks at how walking and rambling have influenced some of our greatest writers and artists, considers the benefits for our health and the environment – and traces the history of campaigns and the work of inspiring individuals that led to the first National Parks being created.
Walk! A Celebration Of Striding Out is published by Great Northern Books, priced £15.99. £1 from every copy sold will go to the Campaign for National Parks.
