WINNERS of a York photo competition aimed at capturing the vibrant life of the older generation in the city have been announced.
Entries in the Full Of Life competition were displayed at the Mansion House.
Sue Lister was the winner of the 50-plus category. Her successful entry showed her friend, Eileen Rhodes, touching-in the paint on York’s Purple Man.
The competition celebrated the variety of activities available for senior members og the community and the changing modern perspectives towards ageing.
Working with organisations such as Age Concern, York Cares, York Older People’s Assembly and York Racial Equality Network, the City of York Council’s adults, children and education department aimed to promote positively the opportunities available for over- 55s.
Jack Leatherbarrow’s winning portrait in the primary school category showed three generations sharing quality time together, while secondary school category winner John McCabe depicted how the age gap can be bridged through shared interests.
The other winners were Tim Waudby and The Press staff photographer Anthony Chappel-Ross, and runners-up included Amanda Askew, Roslyn Gill, Serena Pollock, Anna Beckett, Chloe Leatherbarrow, Charlotte Ramsay and Kristy Noble.
Graham Terry, assistant director of adults, children and education at City of York Council, said: “The competition was aimed atgetting a selection of pictures to use in future publications and online material produced by the council and its online partners.
“They will help to promote and develop a positive attitude towards ageing in York.”
