YORK Hospital has fared well in a survey carried out among overnight adult patients during July last year.

Carried out by the Picker Institute on behalf of York Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, the survey revealed York to be achieving average or better than average performance compared with other UK hospitals.

Areas where the trust rated as performing significantly better than average included same-sex accommodation, communication between patients and doctors, confidence and trust in doctors, patients feeling they were involved in decisions about their discharge and patients reporting that there were enough nurses on duty to care for them in hospital.

However, patients reported that they were not always asked to give their opinions on the quality of their care and the trust said it will now look at how best to improve in this area.
