Stamford Bridge are the most successful club this season so far in the Tyke Petroleum Men’s Tennis League.
The club’s two teams both boast a 100 per cent winning record, having won a staggering total of 1,069 games between them. All three of their first-team pairs scored heavily in an 86-22 victory over strugglers Strensall to remain four points clear in division three. Tony Downing and Chris Bowles won 33 games.
Stamford Bridge 2, despite having no match this week, remain joint-top of division seven with a match in hand. Poppleton extended their lead to four points in division one, and Dunnington are still giving chase.
Poppleton were always in control at home to Pocklington. Popp’s John Moore and Paul Cook won 28 games. Bubwith could only muster half their regular side and gave debutant Alfie Hubble a baptism of fire at home to Dunnington, who romped home 77-31 without losing a rubber. Appleton Roebuck’s Paul Dadvar and Ed Ziegler won 26 games in their 69-39 division two defeat by Rowntree Park.
Park stay third with a match in hand over second-placed Castlegarth, who beat Starbeck. Runaway leaders Poppleton 2 are five points clear, overcoming an early scare to beat Copmanthorpe 56-52. Boston Spa saw their promotion aspirations fade as they lost 60-48 to York 2. Phil Bremner and Jonathan Sharpe won 31 games in a 61-47 win for third-placed Sherburn at Cawood in division three. Rowntree Park 2 lead the four-way tussle at the top of division four after a 67-41 home win over Wigginton 2.
Fulford 2 welcomed back Arran Tate as they romped to a 72-36 home win against Castlegarth 2. Fourth-placed Dunnington 2 beat Manor School 77-31 thanks to 28 games from Tim Lamb and Mat Shepherd.
Bubwith 2 toppled hosts Sutton-on-Derwent 2 61-47 to step up their promotion bid. Cliffe beat Dunnington 3 81-27 to keep alive their hopes of a division six promotion berth.
Harlow beat Poppleton 3 72-36 to regain top spot from David Lloyd, who were without a game.
