York are putting together an impressive run in division four. They moved into the second automatic promotion place as, led by captain Gordon Bruce and Tricia Urquart, they defeated previously unbeaten leaders David Lloyd.

Paul Dadvar and Chris Howat’s 11-1 last-rubber win for Appleton Roebuck against Cliffe keeps them in contention, despite a later loss to Wilberfoss.

The promotion contenders in division six have closed up after leaders David Lloyd lost to Sutton-on-Derwent, who did not drop a set.

Alne closed the gap to one point with a win at Tollerton and a draw against another of the promotion hopefuls, Appleton Roebuck.

Edwin Knighton and Fiona Smith ensured Poppleton stayed in second place in division eight with a win against Appleton Roebuck.

That kept a five-point cushion between themselves and the chasing pack, while Sutton-on-Derwent lead the way.

Relegation-threatened Copmanthorpe earned a vital win at Wigginton.

There was no change at the top of division nine as second-placed Stamford Bridge added another hefty win to their record.

Mick Douglas and Karen Anderson only lost three games.

David Lloyd are on the same number of points after a win against Fulford.

Wistow pair Nigel and Sarah Huggins won their last rubber 10-2 to snatch the points in a very close encounter with Dunnington to keep their side top of division ten.

Sutton-on-Derwent won their first match of the campaign at Wilberfoss, with all three couples winning 21 games.

Bubwith 2 beat Dunnington 80-28 to remain ahead of the pack in division 11. Alaistair Southworth and Ann Wottge were the stars.

For the visitors, Sheila Stephenson made her seasonal debut with partner Alastair Domville and won two sets.
