YORK golfer Simon Dyson is in the last chance saloon this week as he bids to qualify for the Open.
The Malton and Norton European Tour star missed the cut at last weekend’s Open de France following a disastrous second-round 80 at Le Golf National in Paris.
The 33-year-old has been troubled by back problems and is set to visit a specialist next week for an injection to help ease the problem.
Dyson will put that on hold should he finish in the top five at the Barclays Scottish Open, held at the Castle Stuart Golf Links in Inverness.
That would secure him a place at the season’s third Major championship, but he faces a strong field including the world number one and two, Luke Donald and Lee Westwood, the 2010 US Open champion Graeme McDowell and four- time Major champion Phil Mickelson.
