Readers should not be misled into thinking that the sites revealed in the Press for housing and employment development (June 30th are in any way new.
The sites were identified following a very long process and were those that were published with the first draft Local Development Framework in March this year.
Readers should be in no doubt that these sites will not accommodate the extra houses that Labour approved at the council meeting last Thursday.
They will need to be built on green belt land. The situation is worse than that, as Labour have also reduced the numbers that they think can be accommodated on the York Central site and have reallocated part of a housing site at Monks Cross for employment. This will mean that there is less brownfield land available for houses, threatening yet more green fields.
York residents have made it clear on a number of occasions that they do not wish to see development on the green belt, yet that is exactly what Labour are planning to do. So much for their promise to listen to the results of consultations.
