Mr Robb’s letter (June 28) takes a swipe at York Green Party, suggesting that we should share one protest placard to save resources.
Funny man! I look forward to your stand-up routine. However, trying so hard to be funny may have obscured the deeper message, and our message was that further massive retail development at Monk’s Cross would have a detrimental affect on the viability of the city centre for shopping, as well as adding to the traffic congestion on the ring road.
This sort of out-of-town expansion goes massively against local and national policy and the council should reject it out of hand. It’s obvious that another economic boom would require more people living here and therefore more housing to accommodate them, and it’s such a housing boom that Mr Robb objects to in his further letter of July 4. Care to join us on the protest next time? We even saved the placards for re-use, so as not to waste resources.
Coun Dave Taylor, New Walk Terrace, Fishergate, York.
