A new arrival at an East Yorkshire agricultural college is causing quite a stir.
A pair of ring-tailed lemurs resident at a new outdoor animal handling centre at Bishop Burton College have just become proud parents.
Parents Charlie and Tabitha were brought to the unit to offer students more exotic species to study and manage.
But students and their tutors were surprised when Tabitha gave birth a little over two weeks ago.
Nick Davies, animal management unit co-ordinator, said: “This latest arrival follows the birth of a number of meerkat pups and two joeys and yet again demonstrates that the work we put into designing this new unit has paid off.
“Aside from the academic opportunities it provides, it’s just fantastic to know that the animals are happy and settled in the centre.”
The ring-tailed lemur is found in south and south-western Madagascar and is listed as “near threatened” on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List.
