TWO louts have been jailed for drink-fuelled violence that left one man with a broken cheekbone and saw another kicked as he lay on the ground.
When Craig Steven Fox, 27, saw Ross Gorrill being chased along Clifford Street in the early hours of February 18, he swung his arm so hard he felled the running man to the ground and put him in hospital for a day.
Mr Gorrill was off work for three or four weeks with a broken cheekbone and other injuries. After he was arrested and released on bail, Fox, his friend, Bradley Joseph Dunne, 29, and others brawled in a the Blue Fly bar, in New Street, in July. Fox lifted a chair, but did not use it as a weapon and both men punched Wayne Kitchen, who was kicked by someone unknown as he lay on the ground.
Recorder Duncan Smith told the pair: “You behaved like juvenile delinquents. You are thugs in your late twenties. When you walk into licensed premises, the fun goes out of the bar. You spoil it for other people. Why should the people of this city put up with it?”
He jailed Fox, of Grange Lane, Chapelfields, for 27 months and Bradley Joseph Dunne, of Spurr Court, Foxwood, for nine months. Fox admitted causing grievous bodily harm to Mr Gorrill and both he and Dunne admitted affray in the Blue Fly. Both have previous convictions for violence.
For Fox, Glenn Parsons said his client was a very different person when he had not been drinking.
“He was now showing signs of maturity and settling down.”
For Dunne, Nicholas Barker said his client was taking steps to control his temper and he had personal problems.
